Qualifications

Tara received her B.A. in Criminal Justice and Sociology, with a minor in Accounting, from King’s College, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She also served as captain of the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams.

Q&A

What has been one of your favorite or most memorable accomplishments in your career?

My most memorable accomplishments thus far in my career has been that I successfully argued before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. In just a year and a half out of law school, I prepared a brief for an Appellate issue and when the time for argument came around, I was given the opportunity to present an argument before the Superior Court.

What is the best advice you were ever given and who gave you that advice?

The best advice I was ever given was to “work hard and have fun.” This was something my grandfather would say single day as he dropped me and my siblings off at school. Although a very simple saying, it is constant reminder to have fun. If you forget to have fun and enjoy the benefits of hard work, then you will forget why you work hard and lose the motivation to do so..

What is something that people would find most surprising about you?

I think people would find it surprising that I am a huge Star Wars fan. I have seen every Episode of Star Wars more times than I can count. My favorite movie is Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and my favorite battle is the Battle of Geonosis, in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.

Ms. Weitz has achieved many notable favorable results for her clients, including:

• The dismissal of a medical malpractice claim against a psychiatrist who allegedly was negligent in prescribing an excessive amount of psychiatric medication to Plaintiff, which allegedly resulted in Plaintiff collapsing on her infant (Plaintiff’s decedent), which, in turn, caused the infant’s death by way of positional asphyxia.

• The dismissal of a medical malpractice claim against a pediatrician who, along with several other healthcare providers, failed to timely diagnose, treat and prevent the recurrence of an HSV infection in their newborn baby, resulting in severe and incurable neurocognitive injuries and impairments. Plaintiffs had alleged economic damages of more than $350 million.

• An appellate victory in the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. The Court affirmed a Wayne County Court of Common Pleas entry of summary judgment in favor of her client, a local community hospital. Attorney Weitz successfully argued that the entry of summary judgment should be affirmed on two grounds: (1) that no duty was owed to the plaintiff by the hospital; and (2) the plaintiff's expert did not meet the requisite qualifications standards under MCARE Act section 512.
